Montrose, CO — To better understand the housing needs of the entire Montrose community, the City of Montrose, in partnership with Points Consulting, has been working to develop a Housing Needs Assessment and will be hosting a public open house to present preliminary findings of the assessments. This open house will take place on Monday, May 1, at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Montrose Public Safety Complex located at 434 South First Street.
The purpose of the assessment is to evaluate current housing conditions and needs, make projections of future housing needs, and provide recommendations for policies, practices, and regulatory changes that can be implemented to address gaps between housing needs and supply.
The public is invited to attend to hear about the state of housing within the city. The assessment is in its final phases of completion and will be available to the public shortly after the open house. The assessment is funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.
Last fall, voters in Colorado approved a ballot measure, Proposition 123, that would set aside nearly $300 million annually in existing tax revenue to help local governments and nonprofits increase the number of affordable housing units across Colorado.
With the rollout of Proposition 123, as well as other legislation and programs at the state and federal levels, the goal of this assessment is to help facilitate new housing partnerships and build on those that already exist. In addition, the assessment may impact policy decisions related to housing in the form of amendments to land development regulations and updates to the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
