Contractors working for the City of Montrose have been working over the past several weeks on utility tracing and verification for the Townsend Avenue Utility Replacement Project. Work will now start on mainline water construction along the western side of Townsend Avenue at South 5th Street. While working in this intersection, South 5th Street will be closed immediately around the work area and detours will be setup in order to maintain access for all nearby businesses and residences. So long as no major issues are encountered, the intersection should be reopened in time for a return to classes at the High School on Wednesday. Work will then progress towards the south along the western shoulder of Townsend Avenue with daytime single-lane closures and isolated side street closures as each side street is crossed.
