Montrose, CO - Beginning Monday April 5th, contractors working for the City will begin construction of the N 9th Sidewalk Extension project. The first phase of construction will include modifying the eastern leg of the Grand/N 9th roundabout to include an ADA-accessible crosswalk across N 9th. During this phase of construction, N 9th will be closed to all through traffic and detoured onto Grand Avenue. This closure is expected to last through the middle of April.
The next phase of construction will include connecting the existing sidewalk at Grand Avenue to an existing sidewalk at N Selig with the construction of a detached 5-foot sidewalk along the northern side of the roadway, and placing decorative rock between the curb and sidewalk. This work will include temporary lane shifts and shoulder closures to accommodate construction activities. This work is expected to last through the middle of May. Access to adjacent property owners will be maintained at all times.
The City of Montrose is continually working to improve pedestrian connectivity throughout the community by constructing missing-link sidewalks, especially along minor arterial roadways. The recent completion of the nearby Connect Initiative recreation trail, development within Colorado Outdoors, and feedback received during neighborhood meetings have helped to make a missing link on N 9th St between Selig and Grand Avenues a high-priority sidewalk extension for the city.
