CITY OF MONTROSE TO BEGIN RECONSTRUCTION OF RIVERBOTTOM DRIVE
Contractors working for the City of Montrose will start reconstruction of Riverbottom Drive on Monday August 26, 2019. This project will include a waterline extension, piping of the existing stormwater and irrigation ditch, widening of the roadway to include on-street parking in each direction, the addition of sidewalks down both sides of the street, as well as a reconfiguration of the intersection at Rio-Grande Avenue. Starting this winter, the Montrose Recreation District will also be renovating Holly Park situated on the northern side of Riverbottom Drive. Both projects are being made possible in part by a $500k grant awarded to the City and Rec. District from the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA).
Construction is expected to last into April 2020. Throughout construction, Riverbottom Drive will remain closed to through traffic and all traffic looking to access Riverbottom Park will be detoured to Apollo Drive. The Apollo Drive entrance to the park will temporarily be converted into a two way street throughout the course of the project to allow for this alternate access. Pedestrians using the Uncompahgre Riverway Trail and looking to access Riverbottom Park may still do so via Riverbottom Drive. As soon as the roadway is complete it will reopen as a gravel road until the asphalt batch plants open in the spring at which time there will be a second, several-day closure for final paving of the street.
