[ARCHIVED] Community Makes Plans to “Reconnect with Nature” During Earth Week

Montrose, CO — Join in celebrating Earth Day (April 22) and Earth Week (April 22 – 28) with a wide variety of events and community activities to help grow and preserve a healthy environment for all city residents. 


Each spring the City of Montrose sponsors and coordinates a full schedule of Earth Week activities. This year's theme is "Reconnect with Nature." While it is easy to get swept up by our daily routines, this Earth Week the city encourages everyone to take time to get outside and enjoy the gloriously scenic area that we call home. 


A full list of local Earth Week events include:


• Montrose Regional Library Children’s Room Activities 

Mon – Thu 10 am to 7 pm, Fri 10 am to 6 pm, Sat 10 am – 5 pm and Sun 1 pm – 5 pm.

Storytimes, crafts, book displays, and activities in the Montrose Library Children's Room all week. 


April 18, 3:30 to 4:30 pm:  Make a fairy house with natural and recycled materials with the Art Club. For kids ages 3-13. 

 

The MRLD Bookmobile will be at the Ute Indian Museum for their Earth Day Summit on April 20 from 10 am to 2 pm as well as the Earth Day Expo in Buckley Park, April 27 from 11 am to 1 pm.


• 2nd Annual Regenerative Earth Day Community Summit

Saturday, April 20 from 11 am to 10 pm at the Ute Indian Museum (17253 Chipeta Rd.).


• Rocky Mountain Sustainability Center 

Celebrate Earth Day by networking with folks to build alliances in support of regenerative localized food, water, and resilient cooperatives. This is a free, all-day event with children’s activities as well as a Tesla EV exhibit.  For more information visit www.rmsc.earth or call 970.765.6173.


• Film Screening of the documentary “Bag It” at Two Rascals Brewery (147 N 1st St.)

Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30 pm. 

What starts as a film about plastic bags evolves into a wholesale investigation into plastic's effects on our oceans, environment, and bodies. We see how our crazy-for-plastic world has finally caught up to us, and what we can do about it.


This event is free and all are welcome.

• Bicycle Commuting 101

Hosted by Montrose Area Bike Association and Montrose Visitor Center, Wednesday, April 24 from noon to 1 pm. 


Bring your sack lunch to the Montrose Visitor Center for this eco-friendly lunch and learn. Taught by a seasoned bicycle commuter and certified cycling instructor who will address your concerns and barriers with helpful tips and tricks to make bicycle transportation easier and safer. • Earth Day Rally


Saturday, April 27 at 9 am Corner of Main St. and Townsend Ave. (Demoret Park).

 

Make some noise with Montrose Recycles as they rally for Earth Day! For more information, call 970.596.5158. 


• Earth Day Expo


Saturday, April 27 from 10 am to 1 pm at Buckley Park (N 3rd Street).


Enjoy some time outside at the Earth Day Expo! We will begin by joining the City of Montrose Parks Division in commemorating Arbor Day with a tree planting! Learn composting tips from local experts. Become acquainted with the many species of birds that live among us, courtesy of the Audubon Society. Join Forest Service representatives and meet some equine friends! Learn about our local animal friends thanks to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Winners of the annual K-5 NRCS Coloring Contest will be announced and awarded $25 in Montrose Bucks. The library Bookmobile will entertain with nature-themed stories and crafts. And don’t forget to grab a free hot dog!


• Montrose Farmers Market 


Saturday, April 27 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm at Centennial Plaza.
