Montrose, CO — The City of Montrose recently celebrated the great public service work done in 2018 at the city’s annual employee banquet held at the Montrose Pavilion.
Each year senior city administration highlights the work achieved over the past year and present awards to employees who demonstrated a high level of public service in their roles. The theme of this year's banquet was "Tailgate Party" where the staff was encouraged to represent their favorite sports teams.
City Manager Bill Bell presented the city’s Employee of the Year award to Mike Norris whose work is essential to operations at the city's wastewater treatment facility. Other nominees for this award were Scott Murphy, David Bries, and Steve Salazar.
Bell presented the 2018 Manager's Excellence in Service Award to Archie Byers in recognition of his “steadfast commitment to excellence and customer-focused leadership within the Building Services Division.”
“During a time of constant change and rapid growth, Byers has been a reliable and consistent top performer who has truly helped to make Montrose a better place, and the City of Montrose a well-respected and professional organization,” Bell said of Byers.
The Team of the Year award was presented to the city's IT Department. The team was tasked with setting up a new Spillman system for the WestCo Dispatch Center. This complicated system can take months to purchase, set up, and make operational. The city's team was able to complete the work in about a month. This effort was critical for the WestCO Dispatch Center to operate.
