Montrose, CO – The City of Montrose welcomes Ann Morgenthaler as the city's next Assistant City Manager. Morgenthaler, a resident of the region, joins the city from the Town of Telluride where she has served as the Building and Planning Director. Morgenthaler is set to begin work in Montrose on Sept. 10th.
Morgenthaler was born, raised, and educated in Colorado. As a resident of Ouray, Morgenthaler once served in the City of Ouray administration before joining the Town of Telluride.
In Telluride, Morgenthaler was tasked with overseeing development activities while contributing to the community’s efforts to increase affordable housing, preserve historic structures, and promote vitality in the commercial core of town.
“It has been a privilege to serve the Town of Telluride, and I hope that my experience working with an engaged and dynamic constituency will serve the Montrose community well, too,” Morgenthaler said.
Morgenthaler completed her undergraduate studies at Colorado College and obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, Denver.
“While in graduate school I completed a summer internship for the Town of Silverton, which solidified my dedication to public administration and my love for the San Juan Mountains region,” Morgenthaler said.
With a love of hiking, exploring the region, and working on her home with partner Cory Jackson, Morgenthaler enjoys a deep passion for the area.
“As a resident of Ouray for the past seven years, Montrose has been like home to me and I have enjoyed amazing Montrose amenities such as the shops, restaurants, recreation opportunities, and community events,” she said.
Montrose City Manager Bill Bell said “Although there were three excellent candidates who received second interviews, Ann’s unique experiences related to workforce housing initiatives, city planning, and community development set her apart from the other applicants. Ann is well respected throughout the region and the state for being a well-versed professional who cares a lot about building community through collaboration and teamwork.”
Over the course of three days in early July, city staff reviewed and vetted applications from across Colorado, the United States and one from South Africa. Of the 110 applications received, 48 came from within Colorado. Approximately 20 of the applicants were from the Montrose area. A comprehensive panel style interview and selection process including elected officials, department heads, and other city staff members was conducted and the City is proud of the results.
"Montrose is vibrant and welcoming and I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the city organization and the community. The city organization is a leader in the region - and state - and through the interview process I learned a lot about the way the city collaborates with businesses and nonprofit partners, which made me even more excited to join the city team," Morgenthaler said. "It is an honor to be selected to serve Montrose as the Assistant City Manager and I look forward to learning from and contributing to the community in my new role."
