City of Montrose is seeking to become a Gigabit City
On April 1, 2014, 74% of our citizens voted to allow Montrose to recoup its rights to provide telecommunication services. These rights were restricted when the Colorado General Assembly, in 2005, passed legislation requiring that local governments obtain voter approval before providing advanced telecommunication services. This legislation, in essence, considered that the manner in which local communities address their telecommunications needs is not a local issue but one of statewide concern. The successful passage of Measure A was the first step to reaching the goal of ensuring our city is not limited when it comes to taking full advantage of the services that are available via the Internet.
