Innovation & Community Engagement
The Innovation and Community Engagement is responsible for the management of municipal-owned facilities, energy usage, broadband initiatives, shared services and intergovernmental agreements, and community engagement strategies.
Our department develops and implements citizen relationship strategies plans to improve the interaction between Montrose municipal government and the community.
The City of Montrose strives to ensure that residents have a direct voice in the decisions that ultimately affect them. Included in these strategies and systems are crowdsourcing input for improvements and issues, the use of social media channels, and providing tools to allow increased public participation when considering projects.
The City analyzes facility-related energy usage and implements initiatives to control costs related to its energy use. Since 2008 the city has reduced its energy costs for its ten largest facilities by 20%, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The city is actively pursuing strategies aimed at increasing the availability and access to high-speed broadband internet. In 2014 voters approved “Measure A” allowing the city to recoup its rights to provide advanced telecommunication services to the public.
Shared Services and Intergovernmental Agreements
For many years the City of Montrose has been a leader in our region in taking advantage of innovative shared-services arrangements among other governmental and non-profit agencies in an effort to provide the best service for the lowest cost. Shared services arrangements in the area of animal services, turf and field maintenance, information services, septic receiving, fleet, and finance have benefited the public by reducing costs while maintaining or improving services.
