Fire Closes Pedestrian Bridge

Montrose, CO – On Tuesday afternoon, March 27, firefighters with the Montrose Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire under the pedestrian bridge near East Oak Grove Road which crosses over the Uncompahgre River.

The cause of the fire is unknown and a police report has been opened on the case.

The retired railroad bridge, which now serves as a pedestrian structure connecting City of Montrose trails is still intact. However, it will need to remain closed pending an investigation and safety review. The protective fencing will also need to be replaced.

The City will update information as it becomes available.
