Holiday Events

All 2016 City of Montrose annual community events honor the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service.
Event themes honor the Centennial by focusing on land stewardship and the fundamental idea of protecting, conserving, and preserving our land, landscapes, and heritage.

Holiday: “Winter, Land of Wonder”

The City of Montrose sponsors and coordinates a full schedule of annual holiday activities. Every year, a different theme highlights the season.

The 2016 NPS Centennial tie-in for all holiday festivities — including the theme of the Parade of Lights — is Winter, Land of Wonder.

Annual Tree Lighting - Day after Thanksgiving: November 25

The day after Thanksgiving, holiday kickoff events include the Pre-Tree Lighting Story Time at the Library, Welcoming Santa to Town, and the annual Tree Lighting, immediately followed by the opening of Santa’s Cabin for the season.

Parade of Lights - First Saturday in December: December 3

The traditional Parade of Lights illuminates Historic Main Street. The 2016 grand marshals include a variety of public lands organizations that serve the community through land stewardship, preservation, restoration, and conservation: National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and other associations and organizations that provide community partnerships. A fun, annual event designed to bring holiday cheer to the Montrose community, the Parade of Lights is brought to you by the City of Montrose, Montrose Police Department, and Montrose Lions Club.
