South Cascade Pedestrian Plaza

Colorado Mesa University (CMU), in cooperation with both the City and County of Montrose, has begun the process of removing a portion of Cascade Avenue between South Second and Third Streets to create a new pedestrian plaza. The pedestrian plaza will link the CMU's Montrose campus, located inside the Montrose Regional Library, with their administration building at the northeast corner of Cascade Avenue and Third Street.
The project proposes the introduction of two large rows of trees on the north and south sides of a center concrete section. The center concrete section will provide tables and chairs, bike racks and refuse containers and will be separated from adjacent buildings and hardscape with landscape islands.

CMU plans to add a large monument sign at the southeast end of the plaza to inform adjacent pedestrians and motorists that they have arrived at CMU’s Montrose Campus.  Additional Street lighting will be added to provide a safe and attractive corridor.
